About this Project

Mr Meow's Kitchen was a group project made with 5 other team members over the course of 1 semester. I made this as one of my senior capstone projects. As someone experienced in 2D and 3D art, I was named the art director of this project and I oversaw the 2D and 3D art styles. I picked the color palette for this project and went for a very graphic and cartoon-ish look for the 3D textures. I was also in charge of the graphic design, meaning I designed the logo and picked fonts, and setting the rules of our branding guidelines.

Im really proud of how the game came out because I think the design overall looks very cohesive, despite having an art team of 4 different people, including me.

3D Art Pipeline

I worked directly with our teams' 3D modeler, to UV unwrap and texture every single one of the games models. This is one fully rendered character.

Character Profiles

4 cat player characters, each is a drastically different breed and uses different clothing colors to make easy differentiation when on screen with each other.

Items

The process of making ingredient items started with a 2D concept artist, translating it into a 3D model and 3D texture, then keeping the style of the food items the same throughout the game, while also making each food recognizable as itself.

Environment

The environment consisted of a main wooden planks and table area, surrounded by a simple beach scene. I emulated the style of classic cutesy 3D games like Mario Kart and Animal Crossing for the style of the trees and the planks.

You can see I have multiple reference images up for the environment scenery look in my Blender project file.

Logo Sketches

Some ideations I was making toward logo imagery, these were the final 3 ideas. The team voted on the bottom concept, so I continued with that one.

Final Logo in Game

I used Adobe Illustrator to translate my sketch into vector format, then switched to Photoshop to add details like stroke and texture. The final logo is used in the title screen.
